Lit Mag Spring 2017

Redefined

Redefined is an exploration of identity, character and circumstance. Contributors answer the questions: Who am I? Where am I from? Do I have to stay this way? Through photography, music, interviews and writing they debunk stereotypes and choose labels to define themselves.

Lit Mag showcases the work of high school students in Youth Radio’s intermediate training program. Students specialize in a media concentration of Journalism, Music or Multimedia and all produce work surrounding a central theme. Journalism students learn to tell stories and fit their voice into the larger American narrative through self reflection, data analysis and the discussion of cultural context. Music students produce original beats and remixes to add their unique tastes to the Bay Area music scene. Multimedia students work in the visual realm to bring their own art and creativity to the digital arts space.

After graduating, students are eligible to apply for internships at Youth Radio where they partner with industry professionals to produce digital media and advance their media-making careers.

Instructors LaToya Tooles, Galnadgee Joe-Johnson, Will Hammond, Christensen Sanders and Elena Botkin-Levy taught, supported and encouraged students in their productions. Find out more about Youth Radio training programs.
